About the Project
Allaccessathletics was a project started by Lilly Fellows and Karlie Guimond through the Sport for Social Change Lab at Smith College. Lilly was a walk-on to the Smith College Field Hockey team and didn't realize until talking with teammates that there was an entire recruitment process she missed out on. Karlie knew how to get recruited but couldn't afford it. Even though both athletes had an untraditional recruitment experience without playing for club teams or going to expensive tournaments and showcases, both became starters and captains of their teams. Together, they researched and created an evidence-based event to provide rural and lower-income athletes just like themselves with the information usually provided through the pay-to-play model. Now, they have created a bank of information that helps level the playing field, and need your help to share it.
Our goal is to create an inclusive and accessible recruitment model that provides high school athletes with the information they need to understand and participate in college recruitment. We believe that everyone should have equal opportunities to participate in athletics, regardless of their background.
Learn how to navigate the college athletic recruitment process
Athletes interested in playing a college sport, coaches, athletic directors, parents, and counselors were in mind when we created our college recruitment resources. Check out our project through Google Drive for a presentation, flyers, and interactive worksheets.
Event Feedback
At our last workshop with 50 athletes, 85.1% of athletes were considering playing a sport in college. After our presentation, 96% of athletes were considering playing a sport in college.
